Response to Intervention begins with using PALS to screen your
K-3 students in fall, mid-year, and spring. The next step is to
use PALS scores to diagnose the literacy needs of your students
and create a plan for instruction and/or intervention.

How can you access PALS Quick Checks?
The materials for PALS Quick Checks are available as PDF files
through your PALS Online Score Entry and Reporting System account.
To download materials, log in to your PALS account, click on
the “RtI Quick Checks” tab, and choose the materials
needed. PALS Quick Checks are available at no cost to Virginia’s
EIRI schools and Online Score Entry and Reporting System users.
Who should be given PALS Quick Checks?
We recommend PALS Quick Checks be administered to K-3 students
who (1) need more instruction in a specific skill, (2) did
not meet the benchmark for PALS, (3) are receiving intervention,
and/or (4) have been identified by PALS.
When should you administer PALS Quick Checks?
PALS Quick Checks are available for download in between PALS
screening windows.
Why use PALS Quick Checks?
PALS Quick Checks monitor student progress and track the effectiveness
of intervention.
